Author Biography

J. Birney Dibble, M.D.

Born in Madras, India. U.S. Navy, enlisted, 1943-1945. Medical school, U. of Illinois, 1945-1949. Internship, Cook County Hospital, Chicago, 1949-1951. Recalled to Navy, 1951, spent 16 months with the First Marine Division in Korea, 1951-53. Twelve medals and ribbons, two of them combat decorations for "heroism under fire." Surgical residency, Cook County Hospital, Chicago, 1953-1957. Private practice of surgery 1957-1980 in Eau Claire, WI (except for three years at a mission hospital in Tanzania). Overseas practice of surgery 1980-1998 in Guam, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Liberia, Belize, Honduras, Niger, Ecuador (wherever I was needed!).
